When is the Best Time to Move?
Determine the Best Time to Move
Is your life scheduled down to the minute, or are you more fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants? Regardless of your personality type, one thing you will want to plan and get scheduled is your move date. But when is the best time to move? It all depends on the things that are important to you, like your budget, kids schedules, housing and employment.
The Ideal Time to Move – What Matters to You?
If you're looking for the best price, and you have a flexible schedule, it's best to avoid moving during the summer. It's the busiest season, so rates are a little higher. The best prices can normally be found when you move in the fall and winter -- normally October through March. You'll also normally find that it's less expensive to avoid moving at the end of the month and around holidays. To determine the lowest price day for your move, call a U-Pack Moving Consultant at 800-413-4799.
If you're moving with children, the best time to move to avoid major disruptions is while they're out of school for holidays or summer break. While these are high-traffic times for moving companies, there are still some things you can do to lower your price. We recommend making your reservation early, purging before you move (to save on space), and choose a move date that's mid-week and mid-month.
If you're moving for an employment opportunity and your flexibility is limited, the most important thing is planning to make sure your belongings arrive when you need them. When making your reservation consider how much time you need to load and unload and the estimated transit time. You also may consider adding Guaranteed Transit so you'll know the exact day of arrival at your destination.
Selling/Buying a Home
If you’re selling a home, or moving into a new home, it's a good idea to double check all of your important dates before scheduling your move. While U-Pack makes it easy to change your move date, being prepared ahead of time makes things much less stressful on your end. Note the date you have to be out of your house and plan your move date 2-3 days before (depending on how long it takes you to load). Then, determine the earliest day you can move into your new house. Again, this may be a good time to add Guaranteed Transit to your move.
Don’t forget to consider the weather. Do you live in a place with lots of April showers? Then moving in April may not be ideal. Get lots of winter snow? Do you want to move everything in the bitter cold? Consider the weather as you consider the best time to move.
Be flexible with your move date!
