Books for a New Orleans-Area School and Discounts for Returning Residents

Fort Smith, Arkansas (February 1, 2013) —

Fourth grade students at Meadowbrook Elementary School in Green Bay, Wisconsin have collected more than a thousand books for a school library in Katrina-ravaged Louisiana. ABF U-Pack Moving® is providing transportation as a service to the students.

“Be a Hero! Bring in a Book!” was the theme adopted by the children. In only one week the little ones collected 1,200 books. “We do a government unit each year and one of the benchmarks is the concept of civic action,” says Lois Appel, Meadowbrook social studies teacher. “We learned that ordinary citizens can take part in government and solve real world problems if we work together.” The books will go to Our Lady of Prompt Succor School in Chalmette, a suburb of New Orleans. The books will help to replenish volumes lost by the school during Hurricane Katrina.

The next hurdle was transporting the books over 1000 miles. Appel contacted the ABF terminal in Green Bay. “We are honored to be a part of this,” says Chris Cook, ABF Green Bay terminal manager. “We immediately said ‘yes’ and mobilized the U-Pack Moving service.” U-Pack is a service of ABF that provides nationwide transportation for residential moves. The books are scheduled to leave Green Bay on February 8th.

This effort coincides with U-Pack’s earlier announcement of discounts for New Orleans relocations. “We understand that many residents who want to return are inhibited by the often higher costs of the post-Katrina market,” says ABF VP of Market Development, Jim Ingram. “U-Pack will now give a discount to all those returning to the New Orleans area to rebuild their lives.” To receive the $100 discount, moving customers should mention the code NOLA10 when requesting a U-Pack Moving quote, says Ingram.
