Where to travel in February
February isn’t just the month for whisking away your loved one to a romantic get-a-way; it’s a great time to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! I’ve found some of the best places to travel in February, so grab a cup of coffee and let’s explore where you should go in February!
Where to Travel in February
Since 1894, the world’s snow capital has hosted its Winter Carnival, now the largest winter carnival in the world. This is a great place to bring the family. Thousands of people look forward to this event during the cold, snowy season. The rate to get in is about $10 USD per person, which is very affordable. Highlights of the event include a zip line, night parades, concerts, snow sculptures, sleigh and dogsled rides, and ice skating! The event lasts almost the entire month of February!
If you want to ditch the ski lifts but still ski, make your way to Alaska to try out an extreme sport called “Heli-Skiing.” You take a helicopter ride to the top of a mountain. And you guessed it; the only way to get down is to ski! The heli-skiing season only lasts from February to April, so be sure to book your adventure early!
February is the last month of summer in this beautiful country, so take advantage of it! If you’re feeling adventurous, take a 33.5 mile hike through New Zealand’s Fiordland National Park. It’s known as “the finest walk in the world” with breathtaking scenery everywhere you look. If you’d rather take to the water instead of walk, go kayaking in Abel Tasman National Park. From your kayak you’ll be able to see dolphins and stop at deserted islands to rest before paddling back to your hotel.
In February, tourism is at a low in Hawaii! That’s great news if you want to stay on budget and enjoy all that Hawaii has to offer! The weather will be in the 70s to 80s. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy whale watching, as February is when whale watching season occurs. Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island are the most popular islands to see whales from.
Once you’ve brought in the New Year in the U.S., don’t stop the New Year celebrations. Fly to Hong Kong to celebrate the Chinese New Year, too! The first day of the festival (February 10th) kicks off with the International Chinese New Year Night Parade. You don’t want to miss it, as it was named one of the world’s best events by Lonely Planet in 2007. Mostly all tourist attractions are open during this time, so you can still take advantage of seeing the must-see things in Hong Kong. Still wondering where to travel in February? If you love the cold weather but aren’t too keen about extreme heli-skiing, take your family or significant other to one of the many ski resorts found in Colorado or Utah. You’ll find that the resorts will be less crowded and the snow in great condition for hitting the slopes.
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Whether you want a romantic Valentine’s Day package or have a craving for sunny skies and beautiful beaches, Punta Cana is the place to go. You’ll enjoy temps in the 70s and 80s. During February, you’ll be able to find affordable flight rates and open rooms in all-inclusive resorts. Punta Cana offers some type of tropical escape for every budget.
If you can’t make it to Hong Kong for the New Year, then try going to San Francisco instead! San Fran has one of the largest Chinatowns in the U.S.! You can enjoy all the fun of the Chinese New Year with a quick trip to San Fran. The entire city goes all out for this holiday. Plus, you can still see the Golden Gate Bridge and other San Francisco landmarks!
