Moving from Pittsburgh, PA to Jersey City, NJ

So you’re thinking about moving from Pittsburgh, PA to Jersey City, NJ?

Pittsburgh is a great place to call home. It has a lot of history, and there is much to recommend to people who want to grow, live and have a family in the area. But if you’re in need of a change, it may be time to say goodbye to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and heading to Jersey City, New Jersey. Jersey City is just outside of New York City and is a nice change of pace. There's plenty of room for new residents with tons of new construction. You'll enjoy the incredible views of Manhattan, and the cost of living is affordable for the area. Let’s look at what you can expect when moving from Pittsburgh to Jersey City.

Mild Winters

Pittsburgh can be challenging weather-wise. While springs and falls can be pleasant, the town is best known for their long, difficult winters. Each year, more than 40 inches of snow falls in the city. This occurs during winters that rarely see temperatures go above the 30s.

Jersey City, by comparison, enjoys a relatively mild winter season. They typically experience higher temperatures during these months as well as less snowfall. And since many residents get by using public transportation, you won’t have to worry about digging your car out of the snow in Jersey City.

Diverse population

The people in Jersey City are more diverse than that of Pittsburgh. Being a hub outside of New York City, you'll find a mixture of people from every creed, color, race, and religion that gives the city a great energy and diversity. Because of this, you'll enjoy eclectic tastes in music, cuisine, and art around Jersey City.

Economic outlook

While Pittsburgh is known as "Steel City," you could also find a diversified economy with jobs in medicine, higher education, tourism, and banking, to name a few. You won't find it difficult to find a job after moving to Jersey City because you'll also have easy access to the entire New York metro area. Jersey City is well-known for its wonderful shopping districts, many of which are located on Danforth, Central and West Side Avenues. Residents love the reduced tax rate, at just 3.5 percent. In addition to shopping, casinos are beginning to make a foothold in the populous. A 95 story tower in Jersey City has been being proposed by Paul Fireman that would include a casino, and the project has received a boost with the endorsement of the city's Mayor Steve Fulop. In terms of big companies, there are many. Computershare, Fidelity Investments, ICAP, DP, Verisk Analytics and Lord Abbett all have their operations based in the town.
