Moving from Honolulu, HI to Los Angeles, CA

Moving from Honolulu, HI to Los Angeles, CA

Moving from Honolulu, HI to Los Angeles, CA?

There are many that consider Honolulu, Hawaii, to be paradise on Earth. Similarly, there are many that say the exact same thing about Los Angeles, California. Surely both cities have more than enough qualities to recommend, but it is hard to deny that there is a clear victor between the two. While both have great weather and beautiful views, one is on the mainland of the United States. As such, it is synonymous with the heartbeat of our very country. Honolulu is an amazing place to visit, but the very separation of the city from the rest of the nation can get to be very stifling. This is just one point to consider about the two places when thinking about a move from Honolulu to Los Angeles, but there are many more.

What is the weather like in Los Angeles?

Many people enjoy the warm weather in Hawaii. But the facts are the facts; the city is very often hot and humid. The year-round average highs never dip below 80 degrees, and the dense humidity keeps the lows in the upper 70s. While there is plenty of water nearby to keep things somewhat pleasant, this Honolulu weather, while consistent, can be suffocating. Los Angeles, meanwhile, only has a few months out of the year that get into the upper-80s and 90s. In fact, the majority of the year in LA stays nicely in the lower-70s. With extremely low humidity, LA also benefits from cool temperatures at night, with the gage sometimes dropping 20 degrees at nightfall. There are many apartments in the area that don’t even need air conditioners because of the cool nights. This is even remains true the closer you get to the beach. There are many reasons to love Los Angeles weather.

Are the schools in Los Angeles good?

Education is a high priority in Los Angeles. As the second largest city in the United States, LA offers the best of everything in academia. With about 800,000 students enrolled in the Los Angeles Unified School District, LA even offers schools with specialized curriculums and 162 Magnet schools. There are also prestigious institutions like the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, as well as many private schools.

When the top of your collegiate roster is the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), you know that you’re in a great place to go to college. Both of the campuses have deep roots in the town’s very fabric. The film industry is one of the things LA is known for, and it answers with not only great cinema programs at these schools, but also places like the American Film Institute (AFI).

Will I be able to entertain myself in Los Angeles?

Where Honolulu fails, Los Angeles succeeds… or at least that’s the case when it comes to entertainment. While there is plenty for tourists to do in a place like Honolulu, there’s no match for LA when it comes to activity. There is so much activity in LA, in fact, you really only have to say: what do I want to do? It will be there.

If you’re into the famous Hollywood scene, there’s so much for you to look at you’ll barely scratch the surface if you live there for years. You can tour a real, live, working film studio at Paramount, Warner Bros, NBC, or Sony. You can also take a celebrity-centric tour through Starline or TMZ. There’s even a whole theme park based in a Hollywood studio with Universal, which has rides and attractions galore. Disney operates Disneyland in nearby Anaheim, as well. Six Flags also has their Magic Mountain park just a little north of the city.

For music lovers, there are many different concert venues, with the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Powell perhaps being the most famous. There’s also historic locations like the Orpheum Theatre that offers a variety of music events throughout the year. You can always catch a touring Broadway production at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, too. While you’re in Hollywood, you should check out the Walk of Fame or the hand and footprints that are in the forecourt of the TCL Chinese Theatre. The Dolby Theatre, another popular entertainment venue, sits beside the Chinese and is home to the annual Academy Awards. If shopping is more your speed, both here and on the Sunset Strip, there are many popular stores to check out. Many people love to take a gander at the expensive shops on Rodeo Drive in neighboring Beverly Hills, as well. Real locals, though, head to West Hollywood and the stores lining Melrose Avenue… or you can just head to the Grove in a pinch.

If outdoor activities are more your speed, check out Fryman or Runyon Canyon, which is often where you’ll find celebrities getting in their exercise. Beaches are prevalent in the general Los Angeles area, with popular locations including Malibu, Venice, Newport and, of course, Santa Monica. Santa Monica also has their famed Pier, which includes a fun amusement park for the kid in everyone. Nightlife is one of the best times to be living in LA, with popular bars and clubs for every person in every walk of life all around the city. No matter what you’re interested in, there is a home for it in Los Angeles.
