Hickory is a city located in Catawba County in North Carolina. It is the principal city in the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton metro area. In 2010, the population was 365,497. Hickory was named when Henry Robinson built a tavern of logs under a huge hickory tree in the 1850s. The city “Hickory Tavern” was established and eventually changed its name to “Hickory” in 1873.
