While attending the academy, all cadets live on campus in one of seven barracks and all cadets dine together for breakfast and lunch during weekdays. You won’t be referred to as freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors. At West Point, official ranking is fourth class, third class, second class, and first class cadets, and are also referred to as plebes, yearlings or yuks, cows, and firsties. Cadets can attend West Point Military Academy free of charge with a commitment to serve 5-years active duty and 3-years reserve status upon graduation.
