More than 25,000 people have sprouted up in Bloomington since 1990. The racial makeup of Bloomington is not atypical of other Midwestern cities. About 77 percent of the town is Caucasian, while there is about 10 percent of the population is made up of African Americans. Asians also have a significant presence with seven percent, while Hispanics or Latinos are just under six percent. Family life is big in the city, with just a little under half of the town comprised of married couples. The median income is $81,166 in Bloomington for a family, while its $58,662 overall. The median age, meanwhile, is 33.

What is the weather like in Bloomington?

Illinois is not exactly known for its warm temperatures, being one of the Northernmost states in the union, but it does get into the upper 80s, and sometimes even 90s, during the summer months. But winters are typically quite brisk and snowy. Highs during December, January, and February rarely reach much beyond freezing. Autumns and springs are typically very pleasant, though, and it is a city where a resident can experience every season to its fullest. Hot enough to swim in the summer, cool enough for a light jacket in the fall, cold enough for a snowman in the winter, and warm enough to lay away the day in the park in spring.

What is there to do in Bloomington?

Bloomington has plenty of activity to keep families entertained all throughout the year. One of the most popular attractions is Grady’s Family Fun Park, an amusement park that has everything from miniature golf to arcades to go carts. It’s the perfect way to pass an afternoon with the kids or take a date in the evening. The Pepsi Ice Center is the town’s indoor ice skating facility, and there’s also the Upper Limits Indoor Rock Climbing Gym, which boasts an amazing 21,000 square feet of climbing space and a 110 foot wall, among others. The U.S. Cellular Coliseum, meanwhile, is the center for all shows, sports and concerts in Bloomington.

Outdoors lovers have plenty to keep them occupied in the town, as well, with more than a thousand acres of parks offered by the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department. Everything from soccer fields and cricket grounds to playgrounds and golf courts are offered within these spaces. The Miller Park Zoo is where animal exhibits can be found, and there is even a popular 24 mile trail called the Blooming-Normal Constitution Trail. Since 2007, the Genevieve Green Gardens has helped to further spruce up the city’s beautiful landscape.

Is the education in Bloomington good?

Bloomington has exactly the type of education that any parent would want for their children. With two public school districts that serve the area, there are three high schools, five junior high schools and a number of elementary schools found in the vicinity. In addition, there are also many popular private schools including Central Catholic High School and Trinity Lutheran School. Illinois State University, in neighboring normal, also offers a University High School that resident students can enroll in. Besides Illinois State, there are also several other esteemed universities in the area. Bloomington has been home to the United Methodist-sponsored Illinois Wesleyan University since 1850. Normal is home to Heartland Community College, as well. Students interested in cosmetology can attend Hairmaster Institute, which is located in Bloomington.
