How U-Pack Provides Nationwide Moving Services
Let me start by explaining what makes U-Pack different from traditional nationwide moving companies. You probably guessed by the name that the business model is a little different. U-Pack began as a “you pack, we drive” service, specializing in long-distance moving. But after hearing from some customers who appreciated the low prices but still needed loading and unloading assistance, we began referring customers to loading help for one or both sides of their move. Even still, where you’ll see the BIG savings is by doing a “true” U-Pack move. You load and unload, and we drive.

Now, let’s talk a little more about how that part works.

U-Pack’s primary transportation provider is ABF Freight. You may have seen the green and yellow trucks on highways across the country. If you ask around, you’ll find that ABF Freight is considered one of the most trusted commercial carriers in the nation. The company has over 250 service centers located throughout the United States—we call them “terminals.” Each of these terminals employs professional drivers who care for your household goods while they’re in transit—they’re helpful and kind—one of our company’s largest assets.

So when you book a U-Pack move, an ABF Freight driver delivers a moving trailer or ReloCube to your home. After it arrives, you have three business days to load (if you need that long). Then when you’re finished, you call the local terminal to schedule pick-up. ABF Freight has one of the most efficient linehaul systems in the country, so once your shipment is picked up, it travels cross country quickly—we average 2 to 5 business days. Once it arrives, we’ll schedule a delivery appointment and provide another three business days to unload.

How does U-Pack charge for nationwide moving?
Great question! Unlike traditional nationwide moving companies, U-Pack rates are based on the space you use. Here’s what I mean by that: Let’s say you used the space estimator and you think you’ll need about 21 linear feet of trailer space for your three-bedroom home. On moving day you finish loading—and what do you know—you fit into 19 feet. All you do is write 19 linear feet on your Bill of Lading, the driver verifies it, and your price is reduced by the per-foot adjustment rate included in your quote.

The same concept applies to moving in a ReloCube. Reserve as many as you think you’ll need (we recommend estimating up), but pay only for the ones you actually use. What other nationwide moving companies offer that type of flexibility?

If you’re moving anywhere coast to coast or into/out of Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico or Canada or try getting a moving quote from U-Pack. I think when you compare the price to traditional nationwide moving companies, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

If you have questions about how U-Pack works, or about your specific move (because, let’s face it, they’re all unique), I’ll gladly answer them. Just leave a comment below.

Happy Moving!
