Moving Trailers

Searching for information about moving trailers?

U-Pack specializes in them, so I’m happy to help. Let’s take a look that the things you should know if you’re planning a long distance move in a moving trailer.

I recommend starting with a moving quote – you can do that online or by phone. Just enter the basic information about your move (where you’re moving from and to, when you’re moving and how much you’re moving), and you’ll be able to see the price instantly. Your quote will tell you how much space we estimate your shipment will occupy in the moving trailer, based on the size of your move. It will also include a per-foot adjustment rate that you can add or subtract if you need more or less space. Of course, if you’re not sure about how much space you need, you can also use one of U-Pack’s handy space estimators.

You see, when you select a U-Pack trailer move, you pay only for the space you use.

Here’s some additional information about moving trailers that will help you make a very informed decision:

What to expect from U-Pack moving trailers

  • A moving trailer is different from a rental truck in that it separates from the cab so that the trailer can be left for you to pack.
  • The external dimensions of U-Pack moving trailers are 28’ x 8’ x 9’ (LWH) and have a capacity of approximately 2,000 cubic feet. You can read more about the internal dimensions of the trailer here.
  • U-Pack arranges delivery of the moving trailer to your location, you load it, and U-Pack arranges delivery to your destination.
  • Parking the moving trailer requires just 40 feet of length (about 3-4 car lengths). It should be parked on hard-packed gravel or pavement. We suggest checking on parking requirements in your area prior to your moving day. Read more about parking moving trailers here.
  • You can use the entire trailer or only part – and you only pay for the space you use (down to a 5 foot minimum). So whether you’re moving a studio-size apartment or a four-bedroom house, U-Pack is a great solution.
  • U-Pack moving trailers come equipped with ramps for loading and unloading.
  • You can secure your belongings inside the moving trailer with ropes, straps and ties downs as you pack. And once you’re finished loading, you will install one of U-Pack’s secure divider walls to separate your shipment from the palletized, crated or boxed commercial goods moving in the same direction.
  • In most locations you have up to three business days to load and up to three business days to unload. Need more time? Select a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday move date and add the weekend, too!
  • In most locations U-Pack offers door-to-door delivery, so instead of driving the moving truck, you can make the trip from door-to-door in the comfort of your own vehicle!
  • You can do no-transfer moving trailer storage with U-Pack. This means your belongings stay inside the trailer you load it into, and it’s not unloaded or reloaded for storage.

If you have parking issues or a moving trailer doesn’t sound like a good option for your move, U-Pack offers another moving solution: the ReloCube®. It’s a 6’ x 7’ x 8’ metal container that sits flat on the ground for easy loading and unloading. It comes with the same U-Pack perks you’ll get with a trailer move; it’s just smaller. You can reserve one or as many as you need – and only pay for what you use.
