What does peace of mind look like during a move at this stage of life?

Consider leaving the nuts and bolts of moving to the experts at U-Pack®, an excellent choice for senior moving. Whether heading out to be closer to family, downsizing into a more manageable-sized home or transitioning to a senior living community, the actual move doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. You can customize services to meet your needs. Whether it’s arranging labor assistance, finding money-saving options or just choosing the right date for the move, U-Pack can help pave the way for a smooth transition. So instead of spending precious time and energy coordinating every detail, you can focus on the important things, like settling in and adjusting to a new home.

What Makes U-Pack a Great Option for Senior Moving

A U-Pack move allows you to work smarter, not harder. Here’s why:

Extra support. While U-Pack is primarily a self-moving service, it doesn’t have to be. If there’s no family or friends nearby who can help, you can still get all the help you need. U-Pack provides efficient, reliable transportation, and we refer you to loading and unloading crews to do the rest. Our moving consultants make it easy to set up in just one call!

Versatility. U-Pack can effectively handle moves of all sizes, including those with parking challenges, like at condo complexes or senior living communities. Whether you’re moving to a bustling metro area or a more rural area for some peace and quiet, our extensive coverage area spans all 50 states, Canada and Puerto Rico. Our moving consultants can provide a wide range of support, from helping to select the right moving equipment to determining the best move date.

Affordability. To help manage costs, pricing is based on the space you use, not the weight of your belongings. And money-saving options, like unloading at a service center, can help those with tight budgets.

Tips for Moving in Your Golden Years

Leaving the home you love can be bittersweet. There’s also a concern about taking care of special items or just the physical burden of handling a move. But with a plan in place, the process can go smoothly. Here’s how to set yourself up for a successful move:

  • Take only what’s needed. If you’ve lived in your home for many years, you’ve probably accumulated a lot of stuff. You may not even remember what’s packed away in some of those closets! Take time to go through and get rid of anything that doesn’t have an emotional or practical value. This is crucial if moving to a smaller place.
  • Find new homes for sentimental items. If there are things you don’t want to move (like antique furniture, heirlooms or photo albums), consider giving them to family members or close friends. Talk with your family about pieces they may want before selling or trashing them. Some of their beloved keepsakes may surprise you!
  • Find new doctors and specialists in the new area. Talk with current doctors and get references for different ones in your new hometown. They may have peer recommendations or suggestions that can help when selecting the best providers based on care needs.
  • Transfer medical records. Arrange for current providers to send medical records to new ones before the move, so there’s no gap in care. Find out how to transfer medical records here. Also, contact your pharmacy to have prescriptions transferred for easy refills.
  • Keep medicines on hand. Be sure to leave out an ample supply of any medications or supplements, and carry them with you during the trip.
  • Notify your retirement plan of the move. Let Social Security or your private plan know about the change of address. Here’s more information on changing an address with Social Security.
  • Check insurance coverage. Moving to a new state may affect Medicare or other insurance coverage. Talk with your provider to ensure the coverage is transferable or to select a new plan.
