Both cities are the most populous in their states and were incorporated in the 1700s. Keep reading to learn more about the lifestyle change you’ll experience in Charlotte.

Warmer weather in North Carolina

Charlotte is a bit warmer throughout the year than Philadelphia. Yearly temperatures typically stay between 30 and 90 degrees (compared to the range of 26 to 87 degrees in Philly).

You’ll also notice less snow around your new home since Charlotte only averages 2 inches per year, while Philly typically gets 13. Summers in Charlotte are hot and humid, perfect for making a trip to Myrtle Beach, less than 200 miles away.

Explore historical Charlotte

As a former Philadelphian, you’re likely accustomed to a city anchored in American history. Charlotte was named for Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the queen consort of Great Britain and Ireland. The city received a second nickname, “The Hornet’s Nest,” when General Charles Cornwallis used the phrase to describe the town after being driven out by hostile residents during the American Revolutionary War.

Today, the city has 8 historical districts managed by the Charlotte Historical District Commission:

  • Dilworth
  • Fourth Ward
  • Hermitage Court
  • McCrorey Heights
  • Oaklawn Park
  • Plaza Midwood
  • Wesley Heights
  • Wilmore
