Making your way to “The Emerald City”
Relocating from Nashville to Seattle is a journey over halfway across the U.S. You can expect a change of pace leaving “Music City” for life in the coastal town known as “The Emerald City.”
Seattle’s city population of 737,000 is a bit larger than Nashville’s 700,000. However, with over 4 million residents, Seattle's metro area is twice as populous as Nashville’s.

Different sounds in Seattle
While you can still listen to the country music famous in “Music City,” the music scene differs in Seattle. It’s the birthplace of Grunge Music, which hit the mainstream in the early 1990s, with bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.
Today, Seattle’s still a hub for live music performances. From opera to piano bars, there’s something for almost everyone.
And don’t miss Life on Mars, a plant-based cocktail bar with walls of vinyl records to peruse and play.
Working in a larger metro area
While the cost of living in Seattle is higher than in Nashville, the city's job market and economy are strong. Major employers include Amazon, Boeing, Microsoft and Zillow. Many residents work in biotech, commercial fishing, healthcare, manufacturing and technology.
If you plan to train for a career, the area is served by more than 30 higher education institutions, including colleges, trade schools and universities. The public school system is strong for K-12 learners, and there are also private schools serving the city.
