Moving to Pleasant Farms, Texas—You’ll be pleasantly surprised
Pleasant Farms, Texas might be just what you imagine – surrounded by farms, ranches and wind power farms with giant windmills dotting the landscape. It’s a small community in southeastern Ector County, south of Odessa. It seems to be called Pleasant Farms for a reason. The streets even reflect the idea of growing things: Apple St., Fig St., and Mulberry St. to name a few. If you’re new to Texas, expect a mild, semi-arid climate. The low humidity makes the heat in the summer more bearable.

Some may ask why you would want to live in Pleasant Farms, but why not? It’s quiet, it’s serene, and life on a farm can be rewarding as you provide for your family and others. Odessa is about a 20 minute drive away, so you can enjoy living in a quiet area but still be close enough to town to go get something you forgot from the grocery store. Odessa has a population of about 100,000 so you won’t be as secluded as you might think. Midland, Texas is a 40 minute drive from Pleasant Farms, and the Midland International Airport is halfway between Odessa and Midland. You can also catch the bus to get to Midland. The area’s primary industry is oil production, but the county school district is the top employer followed by the area medical centers.

Things to do.
If you think you’ll be bored, think again. Music festivals, rodeos, Cinco de Mayo celebrations, AirSho events, and raceways are just a few recreational activities available. There are even some very unique attractions in the area that might pique your interest. For one, there is a Stonehenge replica at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Another is the Odessa Meteor Crater, which is the second largest in the nation and admission is free. Another historically inspired attraction is the Globe Theatre of the Southwest, modeled after Shakespeare’s original Globe Theatre. If Shakespeare isn’t your cup of tea, the theatre also presents modern plays, and country and Gospel shows. Kids would love a visit to the Music City Mall in Odessa, where you’ll find face painting, playgrounds, and live performers.
