Port Huron, MI

Moving to Port Huron, MI
Port Huron is located on Lake Huron and runs along the St. Clair River for seven miles. It's part of a set of communities called the "Blue Water Area". The town has many outdoor activities that go hand-in-hand with multiple beaches and marinas. Because of its location, Port Huron is often called the "Maritime Capital of the Great Lakes."

Things to do
Since Port Huron seems to revolve around water, it's no surprise that many of the exciting things to do in the area revolve around water too. One of the big activities people moving to Port Huron enjoy is the Bayview Mackinac Sailboat Race. It's a sailing competition that takes place during Blue Water Fest-an annual 3-day festival that includes face painting, live music, food and arts and crafts. People living in Port Huron love the Blue Water Fest!

While we're talking about water, many Port Huron residents and visitors also have a great time at the "Port Huron Float Down". After a 20-year hiatus in 2008, the River Rat Society successfully brought back this summer event. On the 3rd Sunday in August, people gather to float down the St. Clair River in whatever flotation device they want. It's a sight to see!

The city also boasts an historic downtown area, boardwalk, marina, 5 museums, lighthouse, and the McMorran Place arena and entertainment complex.

Education
The Port Huron Area School District serves the city with 11 elementary schools, four middle schools, and three high schools. There are three private schools in the area. For higher education, you can attend St. Clair County Community College.

Weather
Port Huron gets about 32 inches of rain per year, and 36 inches of snowfall per year! With so much precipitation, investing in a sturdy umbrella and snow blower will make daily life easier. The July high is around 82 F, while the January low is about 17 F.
