A standard U-Pack moving quote includes door-to-door delivery with an estimated transit time. U-Pack Delivery and Pick-up Options


Door-to-door is our standard delivery option as long as direct service is available. We’ll bring an empty moving trailer or moving container(s) to your home, you load it, then we pick it up. With permission, we can park it in a driveway, on the street, or in a parking lot. Learn more about trailer parking and moving container parking.

Things to know:

  • Door-to-door service is available in 98 percent of U.S. cities with populations exceeding 30,000.
  • You have up to three business days to load and up to three business days to unload, so plan for the equipment being at your location during this time.  

Service Center-to-Service Center

With this option, you load and unload at a nearby service center. With more than 230 locations across the country, there’s sure to be a location near you. This is a great option when parking isn’t available, or if you’re on a budget and need to save money — depending on the equipment type, you could save up to $300.  

Worth planning for:

  • You’ll typically have one business day to load and one business day to unload with a service center-to-service center move.
  • Most people load their belongings into a personal vehicle or a local rental truck and drive to the service center for loading and unloading.
  • Contact the local service center ahead of time to schedule loading/unloading so that the equipment is ready when you arrive — you can find the phone numbers on your bill of lading and in your Move Plan.

Service Center-to-Door

This is a hybrid option where you load at a service center and then unload at your home.

Door-to-Service Center

This is also a hybrid option where you load at your home then unload at the nearest service center.

Keep in mind with Service Center-to-Door and Door-to-Service Center:

  • These are ideal options when parking isn’t available on one end of your move
  • In most locations, you have one business day to load or unload at the service center, then three business days to load or unload at your locations.  
  • You’ll save money with these options, too!
  • These quotes are automatically given online if door delivery isn’t available on either end of the move.

Standard Estimated Delivery

U-Pack transit times average 2-5 business days. The estimated transit time for your move will be shown on your quote.

Guaranteed Delivery

For moves that require an exact delivery date, Guaranteed delivery is an excellent option. If you need to specify the date and/or times for delivery, learn more about our Guaranteed Delivery options.

Live Load or Unload

While a live load isn’t standard for most locations, if you’re moving to or from a large city or other area where the equipment can’t be left for an extended period of time, it may be an option (in some locations like Boston, Chicago and New York City it’s required). With a live load or unload, the driver will stay with the truck for a specified amount of time while you load or unload (normally between 1 and 4 hours, depending on the location). Talk with a U-Pack moving consultant to verify availability in your area.


  • We typically recommend hiring moving labor so loading/unloading can be completed in the specified amount of time. If you exceed the allotted time, the fee is $80 per hour.
  • Once approved, live load timing is coordinated with the local service center. You can find their phone number on your bill of lading and in your Move Plan.

Same-Day Delivery and Pickup

Same-day delivery and pickup isn’t standard, but is available in some areas where overnight parking isn’t allowed. We simply drop off the equipment and pick it up later the same day. It differs from a live load because the driver does not stay with the truck.

A same-day drop off and pickup requires pre-approval and coordination by the local service center. Contact a U-Pack moving consultant to check on availability ahead of time.

Scheduling Delivery with U-Pack

U-Pack makes scheduling delivery easy. When you reserve your move online or by phone, just let us know what type of delivery and pickup you need and whether you need specialized scheduling — we’ll work with the local service center to confirm availability. Once your move is reserved and we’ve confirmed any special arrangements, just contact the local service centers on each end of your move to schedule delivery and pick-up times. Your Bill of Lading and Move Plan include contact information for the service centers on both ends of your move along with instructions on when to call.
