In 1996, the town of Battleboro merged with the city of Rocky Mount. The city of Battleboro was incorporated in 1873. The community of Battleboro was named for the Battle brothers, who were railroad investors. In 1839, the first train passed through Battleboro. The railroad was later named the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. The railroad management wanted to use Battleboro as the site for its shops, but it couldn’t buy the land necessary, so it built in Rock Mount instead.

Your kids will love the 10 computer-controlled water spray fountains in the summer! The skate park has ramps for all ages. The carousel was built in the 1920s and installed at the park in 1952! It is one of 21 surviving “Country Fair” style carousels. You don’t want to miss it. The miniature train was also installed in the 19502.

Kids in the area will attend the Nash-Rocky Mount Public School District. The district is comprised of 27 schools, including 19 elementary, five middle, four high, one early college high school, and one alternative school. More than 17,000 students are enrolled.
