Unique Places in Alabama

Unclaimed Baggage Center

This is one of the top tourist attractions in Scottsboro, where you can buy items (at a huge discount) that travelers left behind in unclaimed luggage from airports across the country. It’s more than 40,000 square feet of clothing, electronics, jewelry, and more.

Magnolia Springs

This place has the only year-round water mail routes, meaning that the U.S. Postal Service delivers mail by boat to fixed boxes on docks.

Huntsville

Often referred to as “Rocket City” because it’s the build site of the Saturn V rocket, which sent Americans to the moon in 1969. You can also visit the gravesite of Miss Baker, the squirrel monkey launched into space in 1959. Visitors leave bananas on her headstone.

Coon Dog Cemetery

This cemetery in Cherokee has been the final resting place for more than 185 beloved coon hounds since 1937.

Desoto Falls

This waterfall in Fort Payne is the tallest waterfall in the state. After a short walk in DeSoto State Park on Lookout Mountain, you can view the 104-foot falls.

Bamahenge

In Elberta, you can see this full-size replica of Stonehenge. It’s even correctly aligned with the summer solstice, just like the original in England.
