The Detroit Public School District is the largest school district in Michigan with about 122,000 students. Three new state-of-the-art school buildings opened in Fall 2012. There are also nine different languages offered in the schools. There are more than 100 schools in the DPSD.

Weather
In Detroit, you’ll experience warm to hot summers and extremely cold winters. The weather in Detroit is influenced greatly by the Great Lakes. There will be moderate snowfall and temperatures dropping below 0 F about twice per year. Expect around 43 inches of snow annually, especially from December to February.

Culture
Young professionals are flocking to downtown Detroit because of its revitalized Midtown and New Center areas. Detroit is a very “walkable” city, making it easy for anyone to get around downtown without a vehicle. About 2/3 of suburban residents occasionally dine and attend cultural events in the city.

Entertainment
Live music abounds in Detroit’s nightlife. You don’t want to miss the Detroit International Jazz Festival, or the Motor City Music Conference! Motown Records, founded by Berry Gordy Jr. in Detroit, helped artists like Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Diana Ross & The Supremes, the Jackson 5, and Marvin Gaye get their start. Eminem and the White Stripes also originated in Detroit.

Sports
Detroit is one of the 12 American metro areas that are home to professional teams representing the four major sports in North America. You can watch a Piston’s game (NBA), Lion’s game (NFL), Tiger’s game (MLB), and Red Wings game (NHL).

Not really a problem--but it would be nice if it were more obvious where to go to check in when arriving at the terminal. A few clear signs would help!
