Location. Kingman is located just 2 hours away from Flagstaff, 1.3 hours away from Las Vegas, 3 hours away from Phoenix, and 5 hours away from Los Angeles. Its location makes it great for weekend get-a-ways and fun family vacations without hearing “Are we there yet?” for hours on end.

Route 66. Founded in 1882, Arizona boasts the longest stretch of Route 66 still in existence between Chicago and Los Angeles. This stretch of original road makes Kingman the “heart of Historic Route 66.”

Occasionally Kingman receives snowfall, but it doesn’t remain on the ground for very long. If you’re an allergy sufferer, you’ll love Kingman. The climate is so dry that the area is virtually pollen-free.

Education. For higher education, you can enroll in Mohave Community College or Northern Arizona University’s extension campus. For school-age children, the Kingman Unified School District #20 will provide students with “an educational foundation for lifelong success.” The district has 11 school sites with a total enrollment of 7,400 students. The average class size is 22 students. The district employs 416 certified and 435 non-certified personnel.

Getting around Kingman. Besides Route 66, you can travel on I-40, US 93, and even Amtrak Southwest Chief route passenger rail service for daily service between L.A. and Chicago. A total renovation of the downtown station was complete in 2010. The Kingman Airport also has regional services to Las Vegas.

Famous residents include former PBR bull rider Cody Custer, actor Andy Devine, and former Boston Red Sox catcher Doug Mirabelli.

The turquoise capital of the world. Kingman is one of the largest suppliers of turquoise (sourced out of a mountain just northwest of the town).

Some name attractions include the Bonelli House, Camp Beale Springs, Desert Diamond Distillery, Haulapai Mountain Park, Kingman Army Airfield Museum, Locomotive Park, Mohave Museum of History and Arts, Powerhouse Route 66 Museum, and White Cliffs Wagon Trail.

Of course, don’t miss the nearby “ghost town” attraction in Oatman.
