It’s located adjacent to Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage. The city has a population of about 300,950 people – about 40% of the state’s entire population. After you move to Elmendorf, get out and explore what the “City of Lights and Flowers” has to offer:

  • Tour the Anchorage Museum to get to know the history of our new state.
  • Take the kids to the Alaska Zoo – you’ll find all sorts of animals you wouldn’t normally see in the lower 48.

  • The base houses approximately 5,703 airmen.
  • The JBER Housing Management Office can help you secure housing at JBER. The Aurora Military Housing owns all the family housing on base, and there are 3,262 privatized housing units.
  • Only two domestic pets are allowed per household.
  • There are five elementary schools on base. School-aged children in middle school or high school will attend a school off-base within the Anchorage School District.
  • The base offers child care, youth services, a family center, commissaries, medical services, fitness centers, education center and library, outdoor recreation programs, a chapel, veterinary service, and much more!
