FORT SMITH, Ark. (January 24, 2007) —A unique program designed to recruit college students to organize charitable events is being launched by ABF U-Pack Moving®. “The basic idea of the program is simple. Take the U-Pack public relations budget and spend a portion of the funds to pay students to conceive and conduct events that generate more charitable contributions. The students propose the events and are paid for each charitable or goodwill event they conduct,” says Kay Lynn Clay, U-Pack business development manager. “All companies get requests for charitable contributions, but it’s often difficult to field them all,” says Clay. “The challenge is being able to spare personnel. “By recruiting students, the community gets more contributions, the students gain valuable experience and U-Pack maximizes the altruistic efforts of our charitable public relations budget.” U-Pack recruited students pursuing marketing and business degrees. “I’m excited about the program. It gives me an opportunity to gain some true work experience and earn extra money in a positive way,” says University of Texas student Jonathan Gard. “It’s great to be told that your job is to find ways to raise contributions or have a positive effect in an area,” says University of Wisconsin student Kyle Borchardt. If the pilot program in Austin and Madison is a success, U-Pack says it plans to add new students and communities each year. For more information on U-Pack services visit upack.com.
