A new state law now mandates that all students living on a Texas college campus - public and private - be vaccinated against this often deadly illness. Texas will join about 12 other states in the country where this required.
Cook Children's Medical Center infectious disease specialist Dr. Donald Murphrey told the Houston Chronicle "It is a dangerous infection. We know kids (who get sick) are going to be in the intensive care unit. They may lose fingers and toes. They may lose limbs. They may have strokes. They may have brain damage."
There are also a number of other vaccines that most, if not all, colleges require of students before enrolling in school. These include the Hepatitis B and MMR vaccines.
Before relocating to the dorms, students should consider using a portable storage service to move their things. After they pack up the vehicle, it's delivered to their new home for them.
