Moving is no longer the only option for the aging population. Many are choosing not to sell their homes and instead to update and remodel them in order to fit their lifestyle, according to RISMedia.
Some seniors are choosing to relocate, but not to a special facility. Instead, they are moving in with their adult children who are making room for them by adding on to their homes, RISMedia reported. Some are even having new homes built to accommodate multiple generations of their family.
Home designer and general contractor Jim Lucia told RISMedia "Many of them (seniors) don't want to be alone, or maintain a home alone. And as they age, family is becoming more important."
When moving to live with their children, seniors should consider all of the different relocation options available to them, including truck rental, portable storage units and moving pods.
