Great venues to watch sports in the Lone Star State

Houston has plenty of sports options.

Houston has plenty of sports options.

The Lone Star State has plenty of activities for people of all interests, which can be great, as its culture and areas are quite diverse. But with so many big cities, the state is filled with places for sports fans to get excited about their favorite teams. Texas locales have many people who are passionate about a number of different sports, so you could benefit from finding your niche. Grabbing your moving boxes and traveling to the Texas sunshine may be a good idea, so all you need is a city to pick.

Dallas
The first spot that could be a good destination for those who love sports in the state is Dallas. This city has plenty of teams in the surrounding area, but the city limits give you many options where you would not need to travel too far. If you head to the American Airlines Center, you will come across two major sports teams that call the city home. The National Hockey League's (NHL) Stars play there, as does the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Mavericks. This could be quite beneficial for those who want a professional sports team in their backyard. For those who want a college sports atmosphere, they can easily get it at Southern Methodist University. The Mustangs play in NCAA Division I in the American Athletic Conference.

Arlington
While it is very close to Dallas, Arlington has its own sports options. This could be great if you like football, as the National Football League's (NFL) Dallas Cowboys play in Cowboys Stadium, which is located in this city. Major League Baseball's (MLB) Texas Rangers also play in the city. This team calls Rangers Ballpark in Arlington home. Arlington is less than 30 minutes from Dallas, which can make for easy travel to both places.

Houston
Getting your sports fix in in the Dallas-Fort Worth area may be great, but there are many other places that have top spots for those who like sports. One of these is down in eastern Texas. Houston is the home to four professional sports, and the only major sports option that is absent is a NHL team. The city has MLB's Astros, who play at Minute Maid Park. The NFL representative for Houston is the Texans, and the team plays at Reliant Stadium. For the NBA, you have the Rockets, who play their games at the Toyota Center. There is also a team from Major League Soccer here, as the Dynamo play at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Fans of college sports don't need to fret, as there are plenty of options available in this city, as well. Multiple higher education institutes in the area play NCAA Division I college sports. One of these is the University of Houston, which plays in the American Athletic Conference. Rice University also plays sports in the city, and the school competes in the Conference USA.

Austin
Another popular city among sports fans is Austin. While this area doesn't have any professional sports franchises, it is the home to some of the most popular college sports in the state. The University of Texas at Austin is a member of the Big 12 Conference in NCAA Division I.

Frisco
Looking toward central Texas will bring you to one more city that has professional sports. The Dallas-Fort Worth metro is quite large, and one of its fixtures is Frisco. This city is the home to MLS' F.C. Dallas. The team calls Pizza Hut Park home, which is not a bad drive from Dallas.
