North Carolina has multiple spots that could fit, but the best choice may be Charlotte. UNCC Botanical Gardens
You may want to start your visit at the city's UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens. This venue has approximately 10 acres of flora that you can explore with your family at no cost, according to CBS Charlotte. There are multiple sections of varying size at this venue, all with different options. You can check out all of them, which include Van Landingham Glen, McMillan Greenhouse and Susie Harwood Garden. This venue has many types of plans including various flowers and plants from abroad.

The Green
Another area that can help you enjoy the outdoors in the city is simply known as The Green. This park is located downtown and has close to 1.5 acres of space, according to The Associated Press. The area is unique, as it offers an outdoor park atmosphere, but with a unique twist. The park is filled with multiple sculptures, as well as many areas that are dedicated to various famous authors throughout history. This may be a fun location to visit with family and friends alike.

Freedom Park
A park that is much bigger in the city may be another option that is quite fun. Freedom Park has close to 100 acres of space for you to roam, according to CBS Charlotte. This not only has places to hang out, but it also the home of multiple sporting areas such as a volleyball court, playgrounds and even tennis courts. There are also concerts at the venue, and if you get tired of all of that, you can go hang out at the lake. That body of water stretches approximately 3 miles. This may be a great choice when you just want a day away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Independence Square
The city is also the home of another spot that gives a number of different offerings. If you want some varied things in one spot, head over to Independence Square. This is the home of four of the city's famous statues, according to The Associated Press. These represent multiple parts of the city's history, including its gold rush, railroad construction, finance and mill work. There is also the Bechtler Museum of Art next to the square, which can be a nice change of pace. 

North Carolina Transportation Museum
Another spot to learn about North Carolina's history while in Charlotte is another prominent museum. This is the North Carolina Transportation Museum, which is housed in the spot where locomotive repair occurred in the area, according to CBS Charlotte. It is possible to view a number of different trains from the city's rail history, as well as a multitude of other exhibits that explain the city's background with this industry. It is also possible to see what life was like on the trains by taking a ride on them during some points of the year.
