Fun in the sun: Best Gulf Coast beaches

There are many beaches in Florida that may be good destinations.

There are many beaches in Florida that may be good destinations.

While there are some great beaches located on the East and West Coasts, if you are planning to relocate to the Gulf Coast, you may like what you find. The area has some spectacular beaches that could motivate you to pack up your moving containers even more quickly. These spots stretch from Texas to Florida, so you may find something on the horizon.

West Ship Island, Mississippi
There is a notable beach located in Mississippi that may catch your eye. West Ship Island is only 12 miles from Gulfport, according to the Travel Channel. It used to be one, long connected landmass, but this was split during a hurricane a few decades ago. This area may be great for those who don't want rough seas, and are content with a day trip. If you are not satisfied with just swimming or taking in some rays, it may be a good idea to check out the wildlife on the island, or even spend some time fishing.

Malaquite Beach, Texas
The Texas coastline has plenty to offer when it comes to beaches, so you may not run low on options in the Lone Star State. One of these is Malaquite Beach, which stretches approximately 60 miles across Eastern Texas, according to Coastal Living. Some parts - especially the north side - are not as crowded, and this could be quite beneficial when wanting to get some time to relax. You can also take advantage of the visitor center, which gives you an idea of what the area has to offer for both wildlife and history.

St. George Island, Florida
Another great spot in the Gulf Coast located on the panhandle of Florida is St. George's Island, which is a barrier island that stretches more than 20 miles, according to the Travel Channel. This area is not only a great place to enjoy the tides, but also a staple for the wildlife enthusiast. Like much of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, there are multiple spots that house various types of birds, turtles and fish. Some of the fish on the island include flounder and trout. You can hike or fish throughout much of the area, as well as view nesting areas for sea turtles.

West Beach, Alabama
Alabama also has some notable beach area, as it is the home of West Beach. The shore spans six miles on the Gulf of Mexico, according to Coastal Living. You can access this spot from Gulf Shores, and it is a type of beach area that could be best to bring the whole family. In the summer the area is quite warm, and the waves do not get too harsh, so children may be more comfortable with entering the water. This spot is also a top area for those who like soft sand, which may make it an even more attractive destination.

Galveston Island State Park, Texas
Another section of Texas beach may be attractive if you are heading to the shoreline in the state. Galveston Island State Park is a part of the barrier islands in the state, and spans 32 miles, according to the Travel Channel. This area is a staple for not only enjoying the beach, but also checking out the many ships and restaurants that line it. You can also set up camp there, or just spend the day fishing, swimming or taking in a picnic. Wildlife is plentiful here, which may be another attractive aspect of the park.
