Summer Concerts
One fun activity that you can take part in while living in San Diego is the vibrant music scene. There's always something going on, and according to KPBS, the city is known for its summer concerts. Whether they are going on in the city itself, or in greater San Diego County, there are usually multiple options available. Each year, the concert schedules start picking up around June and continue until the autumn. Many artists are highlighted during the summer, and many of them are from the local area.

Mission Trails Regional Park
If you and your family are big fans of outdoor activities, San Diego's location and landscape offer a number of choices. One of these is the Mission Trails Regional Park. According to U-T San Diego, this venue has approximately 40 miles of trails where you can hike and experience the outdoors. The trails also offer an ability to traverse the trails by bike. Additionally, this park has a visitors center that provides a wealth of information regarding the natural history of the area, which may be a fun way to learn about the city.

Old Town San Diego
For those looking to learn more about the history of people settling San Diego, check out Old Town. This area is filled with restored buildings that help paint a picture of what the city was first like. According to KPBS, it has the oldest school building in San Diego, as well as multiple other old properties. It is also the home of a notable market that occurs each Saturday, which may be a good place to see what is being offered. All of the events are open to everyone, and many are without an admission fee.

Encinitas Butterfly Vivarium
Both young and old can enjoy seeking out insect life and learning about it. This is exactly what can be done at the Encinitas Butterfly Vivarium, and it doesn't cost anything. According to U-T San Diego, the location allows people to be given guided tours that will show many native butterflies. It also provides information about how the insects travel and an ability to feed them. This is only a half hour drive north of the center of San Diego, so it may be a good spot to be able to take a short road trip.

San Diego Tide Pools
The city is known for its coastline, and many people enjoy checking out the beaches in the area. If you are with kids, it may not be a bad idea to check out the San Diego tide pools. According to KPBS, two of these options that may be the best include Cardiff State Beach and Ocean Beach. This can be coupled with a day at the beach, but it is important to stop by during low tide. If so, you may be able to see a wide array of fun areas to explore.
