New Jersey has many outdoor options that may be great for the whole family.

If you plan on moving to the Garden State, then it may be a good idea to consider your recreation options once you are there. Many parts of New Jersey have great outdoor activities, and whether you are by yourself or with family or friends, there may be something there for you. Many state parks are located in the area, which may make it easier to experience the best natural beauty the Garden State has to offer. So, grab your moving containers, and don't forget your picnic equipment.

Allaire State Park
Heading to the eastern section of the state will give you many options for getaway destinations. One of these is Allaire State Park, located in Farmingdale. This area has a sizable number of different things to do outside, and according to CBS New York, you can go biking, hike or even ride horses through the trail area. There is also a sizable amount of plant life, so you can see many different types of native flora. The park is big, so you may not be able to explore it all in one day. However, it could be a good place to check out for a weekend or a fun vacation.

Bass River State Forest
Travel down the coast to just north of Atlantic City, and you will come to Bass River State Forest. This area is located in New Gretna, and has approximately 28,000 acres of forest to explore, according to FunNewJersey.com. Like Allaire State Park, horses are allowed, so you don't only have a hiking option on the many trails. There is also a campground, as well as areas to fish and participate in other water-related activities. During the winter, the forest is open to skiing, as well.

Ramapo Mountain State Forest
On the New York/New Jersey border, right off of Interstate 287 lies Ringwood. This city is the home of the Ramapo Mountain State Forest, which has many different options to explore, depending on what you and your family are interested in. According to CBS New York, it has a multitude of trails, and these can be as short as one mile, or as long as six miles. You can travel along these trails on foot, or even with a bike or horse. The wildlife in the area is plentiful, mainly due to the many streams and lakes in the park.

Belleplain State Forest
Nearly in the southern tip of the state, another forest area may be exactly what you want in an outdoor excursion. Located in Woodbine, the Belleplain State Forest has more than 21,000 acres, according to FunNewJersey.com. There are many options that can make just about anyone happy, including picnic spots, fishing holes and swimming in the summer. When the weather gets cold, you can come here and ski or fish on the ice, as well. Camping is allowed year-round, and you can take advantage of tent spots, or even cabins.

Liberty State Park
Another locale in the Garden State that could be fun is right in Jersey City. Head to Liberty State Park, where you can get on the Hudson and kayak in the shadows of New York City, according to CBS New York. There are also areas where you can bring kids and go crabbing. There is a visitors center at the park, which gives you information regarding the natural formation of the area, as well as what kind of plant and animal life is located in the area. If you plan to get in the water, remember to grab a permit first.
