Best college towns in Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh may be a good location for those interested in colleges.

Pittsburgh may be a good location for those interested in colleges.

If you are looking for a place to relocate, it may not be a bad idea to consider an area that has a lively college atmosphere. Living in or near one of these areas may be a good idea, as everything you are looking for in a city - from activities to food options - may be close by. Pennsylvania is one state that has plenty of these cities, and you may benefit from taking advantage of these opportunities. The areas in the Keystone State can vary from being highly populated, to being more rural. If you find one you like, it could be a good idea to schedule a date for your moving company to take care of your moving containers.

Philadelphia
If you are looking for a place that is known for its colleges, it may be a good idea to start in Philadelphia. The city, and its surrounding area, are chock-full of higher education institutions. Whether you are planning on taking a few classes, enrolling in a school's program or just rubbing shoulders with those in the education industry, this may be a great place to start. There are many options in Philadelphia, including Saint Joseph's University, Drexel University, the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University. Plenty of high-profile schools exist right outside the area, as well. These include Villanova University, Swarthmore College and Bryn Mawr College.

University Park
A collegiate staple is the University Park area of the state. This community is located in the center of the state, and is the home of Pennsylvania State University. This could be a good opportunity for you to move to a relatively less populated area than one of the major cities in the state, and still get the full college experience.

Pittsburgh
Another city in the Keystone State that may be attractive is located a bit further west. Pittsburgh is a popular city for many, and it also has its share of colleges and universities. Some of the top colleges in the state are located here, including Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University. The city also has multiple options in the suburbs of the city. One of these is Robert Morris University, which is located in nearby Moon Township. Indiana University of Pennsylvania is also located in the nearby city of Indiana.

Bethlehem
An area that is not completely different from University Park is Bethlehem. The city is the home of Lehigh University, and is in a more rural area of the state. Located near the New Jersey border, this area may be a good place if you want to experience quieter living. The Lehigh Valley may be exactly what you are looking for, and it could be a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
Another metropolitan area that may be a good spot to consider moving your packed items is the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre metro area. This is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania, and it may be a nice change. The cities actually have a number of college and university options, and the many choices could make it more attractive. Wilkes-Barre is the home of King's College, Misericordia University and Wilkes University, to name a few. Scranton is the home of The University of Scranton, Johnson College, Marywood University and Lackawanna College, among others.

Harrisburg
The capital of Pennsylvania also has plenty of higher education choices that may help you consider moving here. While many schools have satellite campuses in the city, there are multiple places right outside the city, such as Gettysburg College, Elizabethtown College and Shippensburg University.
