The Harris Poll surveyed 2,463 adults, asking what state they would most like to move to. All three of the top mentions were associated with warm weather, beaches and sunshine.
The top three choices were Hawaii, California and Florida, with California dropping out of the top spot for the first time since 2001.
These states have consistently been in the top three since the Harris Poll began surveying Americans about their dream destination.
While sunny states usually top the list of favorite places, the list this year was more diverse, including cities in Washington, Oregon and Montana in the top 15.
Cities in each one of the top three states were also chosen recently as top vacation spots by U.S. News and World Report.
According to the poll by Harris, the top five least desired places to live are New York City, Detroit, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.
