The Big Apple and the Windy City scored well for their diverse party neighborhoods, with T & L singling out Manhattan’s Meatpacking District and East Village and Chicago’s Wicker Park, Boystown and Wrigleyville. Miami and L.A. stood out for their glitz and fashion sense.
For mid-sized cities, a vibrant music scene was key to a high overall nightlife rating. Jazz capital New Orleans topped the list and Nashville, the Music City, was number eight. Great live music coupled with a big university population equals especially good nightlife, as the residents of Austin, Texas (5), and Providence, Rhode Island (9), can attest.
Those looking to live where they party might give special attention to Las Vegas, the list’s second place finisher. A high volume of Sin City foreclosure properties means great deals are plentiful, though houses are being nabbed fast. Last June saw home sales rise 16.7 percent on a year-over-year basis, according to the Las Vegas Association of Realtors.
