The survey indicated that the most important reason for moving into a neighborhood is the neighborhood safety level, which 93 percent of people surveyed was one of their two most important factors. Proximity to family came in near the middle of the list at 34 percent of surveyors believing being close to family is very important when searching for a neighborhood to relocate to. The least important factor, based on the survey, is proximity to schools.
Homebuyers indicated they generally assess the safety of neighborhoods by the up-keep of surrounding yards. "It's interesting to see how homebuyers determine neighborhood safety based on the neighborhood's appearance and not as much based on police statistics or crime reports," said Relocation.com chairman and founder Sharon Asher.
Going deeper into the proximity to family results, 41 percent of respondents remained neutral in regards to its importance and 12 percent felt it was not important.
According to Neighborhoodscout.com, the top five safest cities in America are Jackson, New Jersey; Stafford, Virginia; Sewell, New Jersey; Bensalem, Pennsylvania; and Louisville, Kentucky.
