According to Trulia.com's biannual American Dream survey, 70 percent of Americans believe homeownership as "being part of their American Dream." Further, 78 percent said they considered the purchase of their home to be their life's best investment.
"Contrary to popular belief, the American Dream of homeownership has not turned into an American nightmare," said Pete Flint, CEO of Trulia. "In fact, we're seeing a national resurgence of buyer and seller activity on Trulia.com."
Much of the resurgence, at least in sentiment, can be found among young adults. At 88 percent, 18- to 34-year-old respondents said they aspire to be a homeowner.
The survey also found that most people plan on moving to the West and the South. Atlas Van Lines had similar findings in their migration patterns survey released early last month. Similarly, both studies also found more people moving away from the Midwest.
