Hanging items in a room can be made easier with a stud finder.
When you unpack and get your new home set up, you may want to consider an easy way to hang your photos, shelves and other decorative items. While looking for the best spots to hang photos can be difficult, it can be made easier by using a stud finder.
Using a stud finder will cut down on the chances that you will damage your wall, and it could also hang your items easier.
This tool works by scanning the wall for studs to nail into. By waving it slowly along the wall, it will pick up on screws that applied the sheetrock to the stud, which is just about where you want to attach your item. If it is a picture, you can find a spot on the stud - make sure there is no screw or other obstructing item in that spot, and insert your nail in that area.
If you are trying to apply a shelf to the wall, make sure that you know where both studs are, and that your shelf will reach both points comfortably. It may be best to mark the area you want to attach the shelf with a pencil.
Keep in mind, there are stud finder options that also have levels built in that could help significantly. Instead of purchasing a separate level and making a long line showing where you can add nails or screws, a stud finder with a built-in level will allow you to do everything in one shot, and it will be much easier.
If you can, go to the home before your move and make decisions about how you want to hang your items.
