When you give your belongings to your moving company, and you head out on a long drive to your new home, you may want to try and keep yourself busy. The monotony of a trip can be difficult to get through, so there are some measures you should take to ensure that the trip goes by quickly, and you aren't falling asleep on the way.

Whenever traveling long distances, you should have people travel with you. This will prevent you from falling asleep, and it can help you take turns driving to keep everyone alert. Additionally, having another person to talk to on a lengthy trip can make something like this less difficult. You may not think it, but it makes a significant difference. Having a friend or family member make the trip can improve your experience, and make you happier about your decision.

A great way to pass the time is to listen to music on your trip. This will help time move more quickly, and may make you feel more energized for the task ahead. Whether you bring CDs, your mp3 device or just the radio, it could really make everything easier. Plus, if you have a friend with you, the lulls in conversation won't be as awkward.

Take precautions to stay awake
It may not be a bad thing to drink caffeine during a long drive. You want to make sure you are awake and not risking the safety of you or your passengers. If you don't regularly drink coffee or energy drinks, doing it for the first time in a while might not be the best idea. Being uncomfortable on a drive can be nearly as bad as falling asleep. Use your judgment, but it may not be a bad plan.

You may want to take breaks to recharge every few hours. Whether it is grabbing some water, getting something to eat or just a chance to stretch your legs,  it could benefit you. It actually is important not to be in the car for a significant amount of time, as you will need to give your body a break. Not being able to have full motion of your legs for such a long period can be harmful. Getting a few minutes to yourself at a rest stop may not be a bad idea.
