Icy conditions can make moving difficult.
Not everyone is able to move in the summer when it is dry. If you have to move during the winter, make sure that you take several precautions in order to keep you and your family safe during the moving process. Whether it is taking your items from your old residence after packing, or bringing them in after your moving company arrives, there are some important safety measures to take.
When moving items out of the home, or into the new home, it is very important that you check the conditions of the walkways. Make sure that the distance you have to travel to give the items to your moving company, or bring them inside, is safe. If any of this area is icy, you should regularly be applying rock salt, while wearing shoes with good traction. Lessening the chances of ice causing a problem can make moving large, heavy items much easier.
Be sure to have an area for you and your family to keep their boots dry when moving items. Kicking off snow and ice before entering the house will ensure that there are no water pools in the entryway. This can cut down on injury and slipping when entering or exiting the home. It may be a good idea to keep a couple of towels around to repeatedly wipe down the area. With how messy winter storms can be, keeping up on this could be very important for helping the process move along well.
It is also important to drive more carefully to your new destination, especially when you move in the middle of a storm. Giving yourself more time to reach your new destination will make it easier for you and your family, and it will make the move safer, as well.
