It is important to make an inventory to prepare for the move.
Moving can be an arduous task, so it is important to have a game plan well in advance of the actual moving date. There are many things that can be done in this situation, but it is absolutely important to not start packing at the last minute. Starting in advance will make it easier and more enjoyable for all involved.
Before doing any packing, be sure that you have everything else in place. This means create an inventory of everything that needs to be moved. Doing so can make the entire process easier, as you will know what to get rid of and what to keep.
Packing items that are needed, but aren't used frequently, can be the best choices to start off with. One way to determine this is to clean the entire house before moving. There may be many items in sheds, closets, attics and basements that would be good for packing up. In addition, this can give you a good idea of what you really don't need any longer.
When it is getting closer to moving day, you should start contacting utility companies, as well as other necessary daily, weekly or monthly services to tell them that you are moving away. Arrangements for your new place can be made at this point as well. Don't forget to inform the post office that you are changing addresses, as this can be a big oversight.
Having a tag sale at this time could be a good idea, as getting rid of the extra items that you don't need - but shouldn't be thrown away - can be given or sold to others who can use them better.
Try to use up perishable items, as well as other items that shouldn't be shipped, such as flammable substances. When moving items such as heavy machinery or lawn equipment, ir is important to be certain these items don't have fuel in them.
Right before it is time to move, and most of the boxes are packed, unplug appliances and other electronics that can be moved easily. Just grabbing these on the way out could be the most efficient way to get them to your new destination.
Moving is stressful, but this can be alleviated somewhat by having a set plan and sticking to it. Starting out early will always make things easier.
