When relocating, it's important to compare costs with a number of different companies depending on the service they provide, The Gazette said. Getting estimates should be free and not lock anybody into an agreement. When receiving information from the various businesses, consumers should ask that it be as detailed as possible.

Once a company has been decided upon, a consumer should find out if liability insurance is included, the Gazette said. Even if it is, adding more coverage may be a good idea, depending upon the value of what's being moved.

When it comes to relocation options, there are a variety to choose from. An all-inclusive service company can be hired or a person can choose from various types of self-moving, from renting a truck to using a portable storage container.
