The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently reported seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims fell to 398,000 for the week ending July 23, which is 24,000 fewer than the previous week's revised total. The four-week moving average fell as well, dropping 8,500 claims to 413,750 from a week earlier.
Californians 20,813 initial claims for the week ending July 16 was more than 14,000 claims more than the next highest state, Georgia. On the opposite end, New York's drop off of 17,377 claims was the greatest decrease of all 50 states.
As more Americans are able to get back to work and organize their finances more may be able to work toward saving up for moving expenses and a new house. Unfortunately, recent reports indicate many individuals who are able to land a new job in another city or state are having difficulty with their relocation because of the troublesome home-selling market. Some individuals have opted to forgo potential work opportunities because they cannot get good value on their existing home.
