Home listings are diminishing in many major U.S. markets.

According to a new report, the total number of home listings in 26 major metropolitan markets in the U.S. decreased in December 2010 compared to November.

The data from a monthly survey conducted by ZipRealty shows home listings in 26 major housing markets declined 5.27 percent, with regions like Las Vegas, San Diego and San Francisco experiencing more than 50 percent growth in December compared to the same month a year earlier.

The total number of listed single-family homes and condos in the 26 markets last month, based on figures from the Multiple Listing Service, was 595,922, down from 629,086 homes listed in November.

Orlando was the only market listed in the report which saw a gain in month-to-month listings at a growth of 0.2 percent, while Boston, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. saw substantial declines in listings.

In December, the Orlando Regional Realtor Association stated there were 3,243 filed home-sales contracts in November, up from 3,023 contracts filed in the same month the year before. Also, the ORRA states home inventory in Orlando declined by 249 homes, or 1.61 percent, from October.
