Before packing up, college students should go through their belongings and get rid of everything they don't use or need anymore. That way, less has to be packed. Getting used boxes from grocery and liquor stores, as well as from Craigslist is also something to consider, Your Olive Branch said. Reusing towels and newspapers for packaging material, and asking neighbors for their old packing materials helps reduce waste.
