Things to Do Before You Leave

Manassas, Virginia is located just 55 minutes southwest of Washington D.C., and it offers the convenience of all the sights and sounds of a big city without the hustle and bustle.  Before you leave, go and take part in these popular activities:

Attend a festival

The Manassas Wine and Jazz Festival happens every summer and features jazz artists and afternoon wine tastings. The city also hosts “Celebrate America” every year on July 4, featuring one of the largest fireworks displays in Northern Virginia. Also, try the Fall Jubilee. This event includes live entertainment, more than 100 craft and community booths, wine tastings, children’s rides, and a pumpkin patch – all free to the public.

Discover history

Did you know Manassas was the location of the first major land battle of the Civil War? It’s known as the Battle of First Manassas or the Battle of Bull Run. About 4,900 people were killed, wounded, missing, or captured. Thirteen months later, the Second Battle of Manassas/Bull Run began, and it was four times larger than the first. Following the end of the war, the area grew into the town of Manassas and was incorporated in 1873.

You can relive that piece of history by touring the Manassas Museum in Old Town Manassas. Stand where “Stonewall” Jackson earned his name at Manassas National Battlefield Park. Or, visit the former Civil War hospital at Ben Lomond Historic Site.

Go shopping

The historic shopping district in Manassas, known as Old Town, is thriving! Packed with fun things to do, restaurants and shopping, your family will love hanging out in Old Town. Some not-to-miss attractions include The Manassas Museum System and the Signal Bay Waterpark. Signal Bay is a 27,000-square-foot park complete with a pool, lazy river and sand volleyball.
