Customer Reviews
it’s an excellent service and the staff at both ends were friendly. but there are definitely some things to consider before proceeding: the relocubes hold more than what you might think at first look, so you have to also consider that each one has a maximum cargo weight limit of 2,500 pounds and that the cargo weight should be evenly-distributed. you won’t really know how much it weighs after you load it, nor how well you distributed the weight, until it comes time to forklift it onto the tr... See Moreuck. as you load it, you are supposed to tie down/strap your possessions in sections to ensure stability inside the relocube; the tie down points are not that functional, unfortunately, because the openings are very narrow and the points themselves are at fixed locations that don’t always correspond well to your load. “put everything that can fit into a box, into a box” is very good advice as loading a relocube is sort of like Tetris. although you can secure a relocube with a single padlock, for maximum protection you should have 2 locks, one for each door. and finally, scheduling: neither my origin or destination contacts could give me more than a vague guess as to when during the day the relocube would be delivered or picked up, which was surprising.
It was a little stressful for us as newbies, but it all worked out very nicely. The company provided every thing and every service they said they would. Our only hitch was that we bought rope before the cubes came, and that rope was too thick to use with the structure of the cubes. You need THIN rope, maybe 1/4 inch. And don't try to time everything perfectly, because ABF doesn't operate on the weekends and the way trucking firms operate, they don't necessarily load your stuff and go straight... See More to your new address. They may have to wait for more loads to fill their trucks. They can't just drive one or two cubes all the way across the nation. They have to strive to have every truck full. But they are very lenient with you about the amount of time you need to load and unload.
This is the second time we have used U-Pack and we will continue to use them for moving. Customer service was good, prices are excellent, and everything happened as expected. We were not sure if a 28' trailer would be enough for our 4 bedroom house and shop so U-Pack sent us two trailers. We ended up using all of one and part of the second. At our destination, we could only fit one trailer in the driveway at a time. The delivery company (ABF) accommodated us very well, switching out the trailers... See More as needed. The trailers have plenty of attachment points so the load can be secured throughout. Note that the ramps are grated so one needs a cover board or plate to roll anything with small wheels into the trailer. Hand trucks work fine on the grating, but we had trouble with moving dolly wheels. On the other hand, there was no danger of slipping on the grating. The web site has plenty of good advice and great tools for estimating space and equipment needs. A few details: moved from IL to OR. Used four 2000' rolls of shrink wrap, eight boxes of newsprint, about 60 ratchet straps, 150 blankets and pads, ten friends to load (one a pro), five to unload, about 100 bins (the heavy duty black ones with yellow tops work - the regular Rubbermaid type collapse under the weight), and we don't know how many boxes. The worst damage was to our grand piano - which we paid to have packed and loaded professionally - maybe should have handled the piano ourselves. Only other damage was because we ran out of blankets at the end and elected not to get more (late, and too far to go) so had some abrasion marks where items rubbed together - as expected. Hope this helps someone else looking to reduce the cost of moving.
The ABF U-Pack was delivered the morning I had requested and we worked hard for 2 days to fill it. We finished about 4PM and called figuring they would not be able to get it yet that day, especially being a Friday. By 5PM we saw the truck pull up and hook onto our goods. When it was delivered out on the following week it was all in real good shape. We had been concerned about possible settling while transporting, but there was no damage to our goods. Real please with the experience.
A fantastic, easy, non- stressful way to move!! Great Company, GREAT SERVICE!! Thanks ya'll !!
