Learn more about driving laws that change by state
If you’re moving across the country, it’s good to know what driving laws might change as you drive state to state – specifically speed limits, minimum driving age, seat belts, radar detectors, carpooling and cell phone usage.  Remember, ignorance of the law isn’t an excuse, so here are some resources for determining what the laws are before moving day gets here:

What is the Cheapest Way to Move Long Distance?

March 15th, 2012 - 1:20 PM

Excellent question. And here’s the answer: Most people find that U-Pack is the cheapest way to move long distance.

While we’ll be the first to admit that occasionally there are exceptions, in most cases, the cost to move long distance with U-Pack is significantly lower than full-service movers, and comparable to truck rental. But, of course, with U-Pack an experienced professional does the driving. That means you get to enjoy the trip in your own vehicle (sounds great, doesn’t it?).

Here’s how U-Pack works:

Moving to Alaska in the Winter

March 12th, 2012 - 11:09 AM

Alaska is like no other state in the nation, and the fact that it’s surrounded by the beauty of unspoiled wilderness makes moving there an exciting adventure. But a successful move to Alaska in the winter requires serious planning.

What to expect from a winter move to Alaska
Expect it to be cold, dark, and have lots of snow. Winter temperatures in Alaska vary depending on whether you’re moving to an outlying area like Anchorage or an interior city like Fairbanks (where temps often fall below 30° for weeks at a time). With cold temperatures and long nights, it’s important to be adequately prepared.

What Moves You? Miki and Grandma Regina's Trip to Pismo Beach

By Guest
February 28th, 2012 - 3:54 PM

So, we’d been traveling ‘cross-country on our moving vacation for close to a week. Grandma-ma and I knew her belongings were in safe hands with ABF U-Pack Moving, so we just kept on enjoying our moments worry free. We discovered all sorts of interesting places while intersecting Route 66! We stopped at pretty much every major destination and many of the cheesy tourist traps. However, after all of that excitement, we were ready to stretch out; to just relax. Next stop: Pismo Beach, California!

How to pack so you'll know where everything goes

By Jeremy
February 27th, 2012 - 10:59 AM

The key to an easy move is organization.  If you start out organized, it’s more likely that you’ll end organized.  And if you’ve ever moved before, you know ending feeling organized is a task in itself!

The best thing you can do before you start the packing process is start early and de-clutter.  Don’t move what you don’t need.  Trust me; you’ll save energy and money in the long run.

"What Moves You?" Hitting the Road from the Grand Canyon to Hollywood

By Guest
February 21st, 2012 - 1:29 PM

Would we have had the luxury of visiting the Grand Canyon if we had been driving one of the big trucks ourselves? Um, absolutely not as I could never drive a truck large enough to hold my grandmother’s 86 years of belongings on that skinny of highway! But, since we were free to roam about, we headed up to one of the country’s most beautiful parks.

How to Burn the Most Calories Moving

One of the downsides to moving is that it disrupts your routine. You’re planning your moving schedule, making a moving checklist, packing, and focusing on the move. It’s hard to make time for normal mealtimes, exercise and other daily activities. If you’re someone who benefits from a regular workout, you may find it gets dropped from your plans. But guess what? You can get some terrific exercise from the activities involved in moving.
