Well, that depends on the cities you’re traveling to and from. Los Angeles, CA, to New York, NY, is about 2,800 miles, but other locations can add several hundred miles to your trip. Driving almost 3,000 miles can take around 45 hours, not including any stops, so it’s a good idea to have a plan. ## Things to consider while planning a route For a cross-country drive, you’ll want to plan your trip around places to stay overnight and any sightseeing you want to do along the way. For safety, it’s best to limit each driver’s time behind the wheel to no more than 500 miles each day and to break up the driving with stops to stretch your legs every couple of hours. Weather should be another consideration since you may need to adjust your route during different seasons. For example, in the winter, a southern route would be less likely to have icy road conditions.
