What did life look like in 1997? Maybe you went to the movie theater to see *Titanic* or *Men in Black.* Perhaps you watched popular TV shows *The X-Files* or *Friends.* You probably watched Bill Clinton swearing in for his second term as President and cried during the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales. Maybe you cheered for the Green Bay Packers during their Super Bowl win. Your kids (or maybe you) played with a Tamagotchi© or Beanie Babies®. What else happened in 1997? The very first U-Pack® move!

## The U-Pack story

U-Pack began as an innovative way to help people save money moving long distance. When our first move took place in October 1997, customers had only one option: the [moving trailer](https://www.upack.com/how-upack-works/equipment/moving-trailer). Over the years, we listened to customer feedback and expanded our service to provide ramps and [secure divider walls](https://www.upack.com/how-upack-works/equipment/moving-trailer/bulkhead) for trailer moves, introduced [ReloCube® moving containers](https://www.upack.com/how-upack-works/equipment/moving-container), and made it possible to get a quote and reserve a move online.

By 2006, we had helped more than 250,000 people move. We continued to listen to customers and added options like storage and [guaranteed delivery](https://www.upack.com/how-upack-works/delivery-options/guaranteed-delivery). The [U-Pack Blog](https://www.upack.com/articles) was launched in 2008 to provide helpful moving tips and advice for people moving across the country. In 2010, we began offering moving boxes and supplies online to give customers convenient access to everything they need for a move.

We completed our 500,000th move in 2011, continuing to help customers move across the country easily and affordably. We’ve spent the last several years with a focus on improving customer experience — including the introduction of the MyMove dashboard that allows customers to manage their move online and expanding call center hours to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Now we’re celebrating 20 years of helping customers as they embark on the next chapter in their lives. To show the emotional side of moving and what people go through on the journey to their new homes, we created a video over the summer that follows four customers.
