The city of Idaho Falls may be a great destination if you prefer small cities or college towns. Located in southeast part of the state, it is not far from both Montana and Wyoming, which could make it easier if you have family there or just want to travel.

Idaho Falls has a population of nearly 58,000 people, which makes it the fourth-largest city in the state. In order to get around the area, you can use the Targhee Regional Public Transportation Authority, which offers bus service in the city.

The weather in Idaho Falls varies, but it is typically warm in the summer and cold in the winter. The average summer high temperature is 87 degrees, while the average winter low temperature is 14 degrees, according to The Weather Channel. Precipitation is relatively low, but remains steady throughout the year.

There are not a large amount of higher education options in the city, but it does have satellite campuses for both Idaho State University and the University of Idaho. However, if you plan to take classes and want a more immersive experience, Idaho State University is less than one hour away in Pocatello. The short distance can make commuting possible.

One baseball team plays in the city, as the Pioneer League's Chukars play in Melaluca Field. If you are a fan of college sports, traveling to Pocatello is an option, as Idaho State has multiple NCAA Division I sports teams.

Plenty to do while in the city
If you love the outdoors, there are a multitude of things to keep you busy in and around Idaho Falls. If you are a fan of fishing or other river activities, the Snake River flows through the city. This could be a perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors. The city is also within close proximity to Yellowstone National Park, which is one of the most iconic areas in the country. Grand Teton National Park is also in the area.

When seeking out a place to play golf, Idaho Falls has a large number of courses that may be just what you are looking for. Sand Creek, Sage Lakes and Pinecrest golf courses all are popular destinations. Both Sand Creek and Sage Lakes are considered championship courses.
