Cheyenne has a population of nearly 61,000 people, which makes it the largest in the entire Equality State. You can get around in the city through the Cheyenne Transit Program, which offers service six days a week. This may make traveling easier if you want to avoid driving to work or class every day.

The weather in Wyoming can vary greatly, as there are warm summers and relatively cold winters in the city. The average summer high temperature is 83 degrees, while the average winter low temperature drops to 17 degrees, according to The Weather Channel.

The city is home to the Laramie County Community College, but there are many other schools nearby. The University of Wyoming is approximately 50 minutes west of the city. Laramie is also home to the Wyoming Technical Institute. Casper College, is approximately 2.5 hours from Cheyenne.

If you are looking for a major league sports fix, Denver is the closest option, as it offers teams in each of the four major professional sports. A trip to Denver takes only about 1.5 hours. However, if college sports are your thing, the University of Wyoming has multiple teams playing in NCAA Division I.

The city is next to the Francis E. Warren Air Force Base, which is a large missile base that has a sizable civilian workforce.

Outdoor activities abound in Wyoming
If you are one who enjoys the outdoors, Cheyenne has something for the whole family. The state of Wyoming is quite windy, and this allows for some of the best kite-flying weather in the country. It is also a popular spot for kiting, which is a type of snowboarding activity with a large kite attached.

There are many areas to explore the rural aspects of Wyoming in the Cheyenne area, and this includes many notable sites. The Medicine Bow National Forest is to the west of the city, and offers many outdoor activities including hiking trails. There also is a large ski area west of the city, named the Snowy Range Ski Area.
