Waco, Texas, topped the list, and was followed by Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Austin, Texas. The rankings were based on an evaluation of 20 different variables in 379 major U.S. cities, such as housing costs, crime rates, employment, economic stability and educational opportunities.
One USAA analyst notes the importance of finding a setting where military men and women and their families can move beyond their former lives. Kevin O'Fee, assistant vice president of retirement strategies at USAA, says, "The list gives veterans a head start on planning both the second and third acts of their lives," he commented. "Which likely involves a new community, a new home and a new financial plan."
Military personnel interesting in moving to Waco, Texas may find reasonably priced homes. Statistics show that the current median home price in the area is $119,900, according to Zillow.com.
